This isn't terribly South, but I know there is a place right on Highway 61 as it runs through Hastings. Coming from farther south, it would be on the right hand side as you drive along Highway 61, before you head down the steep hill towards the old Hastings downtown. I wish I could remember the name of it, but I can't. It isn't a chain garden center, and it looks to be a bit disorganized. But I'm guessing you will find some distinctive pieces that you wouldn't encounter at the cookie cutter garden centers.

That place has always intrigued me, but I'm sorry to say I have never stopped. I get the impression that it is the kind of place that just keeps stuff around til it sells. If it doesn't sell in year 8, well, there's always year 9. If you do go there, please post and let me know if it is as interesting as it looks driving by. Carmellia

If you are ever in the northern suburbs there is a place on Highway 10 in Ramsey (Anoka) called Plants & Things...they have a lot of beautiful fountains!

Highland Nursery in St. Paul and Tangletown Gardens in Minneapolis. For metal things, Bloomsbury Market in Minneapolis and Gypsy Moon in St. Paul.

The one in Hastings is called Hastings Gift, Garden and Floral. They do have some very unique items and the prices are good. I make a point of checking it out quite often and always seem to find something cool. Another place is Rustic Gardens between Hastings and Prescott, off of Hwy. 10. They have an amazing choice of one-of-a-kind metal items that are handmade by one of the owner's.
If you head that way, make sure you stop at Muddy Water's in Prescott. Their mantra is, Where the blues are hot, and the beer is cold!!! Great food and views from one of 3 patios overlooking the St. Croix river.
