You might consider actinidia kolomikta, has nice colorful foliage.

Linda, I have been looking and looking for that same flowering shade tolerant vine!! I'm going to be watching this thread to see what is suggested. The actinidia kolomikta that Gary suggested does have some pretty foliage ( I looked it up on Google) and has the added advantage of producing fruit :-) The blossoms aren't impressive, but maybe given the foliage and fruit, they don't have to be. I might think about planting one by my camp gazebo.

Hey, the blue-muffin viburnum that we got from you are doing well. Hopefully, there'll be enough berries this year to show up well in a photograph and I can post it for you :-)

Jel48, to get fruit you need both a male and a female plant, google for more info. I planted only one, a male, said to have the more colorful foliage.

I'll google actinidia kolomikta when I have time, thanks!. Maybe foliage is what I'll have to go for rather than flowers.

Some clematis will grow in a shaded area: Donahue's lists Candy Stripe, Claire de Lune, Fleuri, Lemon Chiffon, Nelly Moser, Silver Moon, viticella Venosa Violacea. Chantilly is listed as four feet ht., lightly scented, blooms May to August. I have Hagley on the Northeast side of my house, gets some early morning sun then in shade the rest of the day. Had it with Venosa Violacea which did not come back this year. Hope it comes back next spring. Hagley has been blooming since June. Main flush is over but it still has a few blooms.

Lemon Chiffon on the n side of my garage has been a slow grower but has huge flowers. Maybe it is in too much shade.

I bought Fleuri this spring and put the pot in the ground in the holding bed behind the garage, about three feet out from Lemon Chiffon, and forgot got it until I saw the blooms. Gorgeous 5 inch, deep red purple blooms. Another listed as ht. 4 ft.

I'll look into the clematis, thank you! I have Nelly Moser, it's in full sun and it was gorgeous this year.
