That is so true Lynn. It can be so disappointing when the first bud opens on a long-awaited new daylily. The heat did amazing things with both color and ruffling/edge development for me this summer. I was just loving my reds and purples. Much of my disappointment has been due to buying from photographs that glamorize the color and what you thought was pink was really more tan than anything. But even those should be given at least one more year to be sure.

Oh, poopers! Maybe I shouldnt have been so quick to trade away Ida's Magic because she looked murky and brownish.

A couple of years ago we had the longest thread on the daylily forum about Ida's Magic. Most people thought that it was just a plain, old ugly daylily- overhyped. One grower down in Texas had the nicest blooms of everyone and we joked that we were going to dig all of ours up and ship them down there. I'm not sure if it was the heat that it liked or what.

Thanks for that tidbit Nettiesgarden! Now I can sleep happy knowing in my heart of hearts that I did not trade away a droolworthy lily after all. The photos I'd seen showed it with so much more in rosey tones...
Also, Dentaybow, that was interesting about much cold too immediately having the ability to burst an embryo. Its such an interesting world.

lynn, thanks for the reminder. I forgot that. Finally planted my first DLs and am disappointed in 3 of the 4. guess I'll just relax and see what happens. Do you think a bright red with yellow throat can turn into a beautiful pink Barbara Mitchell? I really think there was mis marking going on someplace. I bought all award winners and believe me they aren't. But we'll see.
