Deer love all lilies, not just orientals, they seem to find them especially tasty when they're just about to bloom. If deer are a big problem you may need to use some or several types of repellents. I'm probably not the greatest person to talk about orientals. They don't always do well in Mn as we don't have a long enough growing season for the foliage to "ripen" and feed the bulb. They prefer an acid soil so if you're in a part of the state with a lower soil ph it will help. The really late blooming orientals may not be very long lived in our zone. If you stick with the earlier blooming varieties you'll probably have greater success. Casa Blanca has done quite well for me. You may want to try some of the Orienpets. Scheherezade and Silk Road are both very good lilies. Good luck.

My experience with lilies has been great.
The deer have never bothered them. And like clock work near the 4th of July, the whole yard has the most wonderful aroma from the orientals!!

OH I have a yard full of lilies, I just plant them, and let them be. To keep deer away, I use Liquid Fence, although since we got this dog 3 years ago, I have not had a deer problem, he is very good about keeping them out of the yard! It's been such a treat, and I am getting spoiled!

My biggest thing with lilies, is that I never know what to plant with them, I would like something that I could companion plant, that would keep that area looking nice, after the lilies are done.
