I'm no expert, but I agree. Once you have one, it will be hard to go back. You will love the convenience. My advice is don't skimp on the number of heads. Some companies will do that to win your business. You want to make sure the plan provides enough coverage, or you'll will notice lighter or yellow areas in your lawn.

I always see them going off when they don't need to be. Get one with controls so it waters when it only really needs too . The set it and forget it type is quite wasteful. Or I suppose you could just turn it on manually when needed. I think they have gotten pretty fancy and can water based on previous rainfall, weather coditions and forecast.

It works great for watering the lawn, but I'm really not crazy about it for my flower beds. I've even had the installer back to add more heads and I still get dry spots in my flower beds. We plan to build in a couple of years and I will not put in the same type of system.

We had our system installed about 5 years ago and it is wonderful. I would highly recommend having one installed. A beautiful green lawn definitely makes a house and yard look more beautiful. We have sprinkler heads for the lawn only. The gardens I still water manually since various plants have different watering needs. I did have a spigot installed by our vegetable garden, since it is further from our house, so that I can keep a hose attached there and can easily water whenever needed.
