One more thing, the color of the leaves of the vine are a bright lime green - lighter than most of the other vegetation in the area.

The bush is probably a tamarack (tamarack bush, not tree). Well, I can't find a picture, but we sell them at work. I'll get a more specific name and a picture this weekend.

I think I'm growing the vine you're looking for but I can't remember the name. Try calling the people at Baldwin Lake Perennials- (651)415-0646. They don't sell it but they gave us a seedling from their yard.

Firethorn: I'm wondering if you might mean Tamarisk or Tamarix.

The vine is probably wild cucumber, Echinocystis lobata. An annual vine that reseeds vigorously and grows like crazy. Can achieve 20 feet in a summer.

Another possibility would be burr cucumber, Sicyos angulatus. Somewhat similar to the wild cucumber.

lastchild 55, Thanks for asking the question I was wondering the same thing on Tuesday as we were driving along Hwy 169. It seems very distructive. Several trees had broken limbs from it.

I think the mystery is solved. Looks like the vine is wild cucumber, and I am fairly sure the "bush", which looks more like a tree now that I have seen it a few more times, is a Tamarisk. Thanks for all the input. It's good to have my curiosity quelled!
