I live in a small town on the outskirts of Peoria and it cost me a small fortune to put a little redbud in my backyard this spring. I didn't buy my tree in town though, I used a local nursery over my way. I have had good luck with Hoerr's in the past (out on rt 91 past Grand Prairie), I don't know how they compare price wise to other nurseries in the area but I've always received good customer service. I just couldn't justify the long drive out there this go around with the price of gas.

I agree with jena912. Hoerr nursery or greenview are about as good as it gets for the dollar (everything cost a lot more, anymore)and reliability of the plants.
Although, had I know jena912 was out looking for a redbud tree, she could have came to my house and gathered all the babies she wanted! : )

It is a no brainer that I offer you. Go to Lowes & Home Depot they both have a fair priced department.

As previous posts have said, I have always been pleased with Hoerr's stock and customer service, beats the big box stores.

You're absolutely right about the prices this year. I"ve seen some pretty bad looking specimens at HD & Lowes at a premium price. I prefer tree's from Greenview as opposed to Hoerr's (although I have plenty from both).

Trees at both Nurseries are spring dug (assuming you're looking for B&B), so at this time of year they have been sitting a while. Hoerr's trees just sit with the burlapped root ball exposed to air. Greenview mulches up around he root ball, which seems to allow for better feeder root devlopement....more

Since your post was in June, you've probably already made your purchase(s). If not, spring-dug trees are discounted in late August, but certain spotty "discounts" may be found from now forward.

I imagine the price difference is because in Seattle the trees you bought were grown within a few hundred miles of the nursery. Whereas in Peoria the plants are being shipped in from Tennessee, Ohio, and for good japanese maples or evergreens, Oregon.
