I'm really late here.... But even now, in July, it is not too late. From plants, not seeds, tomatoes will yield, especially cherry/grape tomatoes. Zucchini/summer-squash from plants [You will need two.] Soak green bean seeds overnight, and plant them. Give them something to climb, even if it is a couple of poles with string laced between them. Keep the surface soil watered until you see plants starting.

Buy seeds now for spinach, lettuce, mesclun, snap peas.
Later in summer, these can be planted, and you can enjoy a 'spring crop' in early-mid fall. If planted now, the summer heat will cause the greens to 'bolt', and the peas to 'fry'. But if you plant them in late August, maybe early in September, you're good.

Thanks Linda! I got sidetracked and didn't get anything new in but it will give me a chance to work on the soil for September. I had heard you can start a fall crop of mesclun but it's good to know I can also do spinach and snap peas. We've had such a weird summer in Chicago it's probably just as well I didn't start anything in July because it would have either fried or drowned.
