I've found that plain old ordinary columbine stand up to my violets pretty well. I think it's the deep taproot of the columbine that makes this possible. Good luck!

The old-fashioned orange daylilys didn't miss a beat when in came to violets in my old garden.

They co-existed quite happily in the low to no maintenance shady areas.

Cinnamon ferns were also beautiful and hardy in the area.

Larger hosta will also do well....hosta like Krossa Regal, gold standard, sieboldiana elegans and many more of the big ones.

Geraniums do well, especially G. macrorhyzum.

Thanks for the replies. I actually have several of those plants that I can move from other beds. I'm crossing my fingers!
