stem cutting asters

Has anyone tried taking stem cuttings of Woods asters? Or sedum 'Autumn fire'? Where I work there's a perennial garden that's going to be bit by frost shortly. And rather than to see them go to waste.......

Not sure what you are asking here. Do you want to root the cuttings?

Yes, I want to root the cuttings. I did cut some asters and sedum 'Autumn Fire' after work. I cut off the flowers, re-cut the stems when I got home, dipped them in rooting hormone, and stuck them in sandy potting soil. And put a clear bag over them. Peggy

Most sedums are easily rooted by taking a piece from the stem and putting it in the moist soil, either in the flower bed or a pot.

I'm not sure that you will have anything at all next Spring but let us know how that goes. I rooted some Aster cuttings in early summer and they grew really well-are in bloom right now in fact. I plan to root in a lot more next year too.
