I have one that's easily 30-35 feet. Planted 12 years at 8 foot tall. No winter damage. Mine is starting to turn that rusty autumn color. This year it had the ball-shaped cones for the first time. Little 'knees' coming up, too.

Mine has turned Rust-red color also, Bald Cypress seems to hold it's leaves longer then other trees but they also seem to get leaves later then other trees too, anyways the reason I was asking is because I saw some sites saying this tree was winter hard only too 28.F and I thought to myself, My Bald Cypress has with standed daytime HIGH temperatures of -5.F how could it only be hardy to 28.F anyway They are very pretty trees! thanks for your Info.

Hardy to 28F must be a typo given they are native up through southern Illinois. Maybe they forgot the negative.

I have seen a few around the Mpls/St. Paul area. Good to see others are having success. It's a beautiful tree. I, unfortunately, have not had a lot of success.

Agree. 28F is a typo. Even the Pond cypress (Taxodium ascendens) is hardier than that.

Since we are at the northerly reaches of its possible growing range, genetics is very important. I also have tried twice with species Taxodium distichum, resulting in nearly constant winter dieback. Now if I were to get trees from the northern area of its natural range, they should be fine. Actually, now I have one from seed from some old Minneapolis trees. It, of course, has no winter problems. Of the cultivars, Ogon seems to be doing well for a couple friends of mine.
