Early in the fall of 2007 I planted a Rheum palmatum (var. tanguticum). This spring it came up pretty vigorously. But, out of the maybe 10 stalks/leaves it produced, about 4 - 5 of them mysteriously turned brown, crumpled up, and died off. The other leaves continued on just fine.

Until today. Today I came home from work, and all the remaining leaves are still very green and supple, but they are very droopy and wilted.

I don't know what is wrong. What do you think is going on? What should I do? Besides rain, it gets watered thoroughly at least 3 times each week
