As for cloning the plant, it will develop offshoots at the base. You can remove them or you can leave them be so that you eventually have a banana clump.

Realize that after your fruit has ripened, it's normal for the parent to decline and die, even while developing the new "pups" at its base. Cut the original plant off at about 4.5 feet tall; as the base continues to decline, it's said to "share" some of its nutrients with the new pups.
