I have dealt with J.W.Jung seed co of Randolph, WI for many years with excellent results. Altho, I have seen a few grumbles about them now and then.

A few years ago, a bulb speciality co started up business in that tiny town too....McClure & Zimmerman. Never dealt with them tho.

And now there is another seed company called Seymour? Wow!

I dont feel like going to a road map, but just guessing; would say Randolph has a population of 500 tops. I am amazed that three catalog companies call it home.

I received a catalog too and was very tempted by the Ladybird poppy, but after checking the Gardenwatchdog forum, I changed my mind.

Totally Tomatoes & Seymours are the same company. Seymours used to be called "Lady Seymours English Garden Seeds" or something similar. Altho the adresses are different, I'm guessing Jungs bought the name. Thats just a guess tho, I certainly don't know for sure.

Bob Could not locate any info anywhere about Scarlet Tanager LLC which has taken over the "famous Michigan Bulb" aka first Enron in the plant world- do you remember the /Springhill, Harris, Breck's, etc owners Foster & Gallagher who screwed so many employees/ESOP owners then declared bankrupcy??

Totally Tomatoes and Seymour's are separate companies for financial purposes but basically under the same roof. Jung's did not just buy the names, they got those companies in a package deal. Most were previously owned by Wayne Hilton, some of which he had obtained by "hostile takeover". After Hilton had managed to milk all he could with minimal effort, plans were to close them down if a buyer could not be found. Jung's purchased Shumway's to avoid seeing that old company shut down and disappear. TT and others had to be taken also or no deal. That's why they all ended up in Randolph. The only one which has not been retained was Totally Tomatoes UK. After one unsuccessful season, I believe that it was transferred to Thompson & Morgan.

Martin; It's interesting how much our Secretary of State
offices don't take or pay attention to these companies which not only take customers to the cleaners , but then when things go wrong they shut them down, with the workers paying the price .

Is "Paquebot" still a viable method of sending "mail". I wonder if our "United States" postal authorities know what to do with it upon receiving it. Interesting - I learn something new every time I visit the forum.

Indeed, Paquebot mail still exists but becoming less and less used with changing times in communications. It is still spelled out in the Universal Postal Union regulations as it has since 1890. A number of cruise line companies still use it, in particular, those whose ships fly the Bahamian flag. It's also still covered in the US postal regulations, as it has been for over 100 years. Finding the one or two people who know anything about it, in a US port PO, can be an adventure but there is at least one Paquebot postal marking in almost every US port.

Also, one does not often receive the type of postmark which is used on all of my outgoing mail. I have a Mailer's Postmark Permit which allows me to postmark my mail just as a post office would. Inasmuch as I send out a great number of seeds in various forum offers, an advantage is that my mail by-passes the automatic canceler machines. Do a search simply for MPP and you should find it.

As for employees suffering when a company has to be shut down, several of the Hilton package had a chance to perform in their original locations and failed miserably. It may have been due to the quality of people hired by Hilton or workers who were so disgruntled that they were not going to do their best no matter who owned the company. Jung's had no choice but to consolidate all operations into one central location.
