Is it your forsythia of that of a friend? If so, you can take one of the lower branches and hold it to the ground with a rock (you can cover with regular garden soil the part of the branch that is touching the earth). After a few weeks, lift the rock and see if the branch has rooted. Then, just chop it away from the parent plant. Forsythia is about the easiest bush to propagate. I have to trim my branches before they touch the ground or they root like mad.

Its my forsythia. I love its spring flowers and want to have one in my front yard.
If I want to do this by taking a cutting, how big of a stem should I cut? Once I take the cutting can I simply stick in the spot (ground) I want with some compost and water it well?
Lots of questions, but I want to get it right before I start cutting away!

Vdixit, go to the "plant propagation" forum on this website. They have several ways of propagating forsythia. Go to the bottom and enter "forsythia" and pick "search this forum". I think the trick is to just keep it watered (maybe put a jar over it, like a terrarium), some people mention rooting in water. Someone suggested you try a few different methods and see which works best for you. I do the rock thing, myself.
