There are different categories of roses with their own characteristics, flower form, habit, repeat, disease resistance,fragrance etc. What characteristics are you looking for? I like the floribundas for their abundant blooms, bush shaped habit.
Not much foot traffic on this forum, try posting your query on the rose forum which is much more active. If diane_nj sees this, she would have sound advice. She gardens in south jersey as well.

Hi (thanks greensingh)! I'm in central NJ (Monmouth). Send me an e-mail, I keep a list of disease resistant roses (meaning, they don't need a regular fungicide treatment).

The Knock Out series does very well. Also, check out Home Run (truer red than Knock Out) and Carefree Sunshine.

The West Jersey Rose Society meets in Medford. Also, their rose show is the first Saturday in June (Saturday, June 5, 2010 at the Moorestown Mall, MacyÂs Court, Rt 38, Moorestown, NJ). There, you can see a wide variety of roses, and talk to the people who grow them.

If you are looking to grow roses that look like those that come from the florist (hybrid teas or grandifloras), those require a regular fungicide treatment.
