I found mine along the road, dug it up and planted it in my front yard. It hasn't failed to bloom since. Your's is a tree and I am not really familiar with them.

I have seen the hardy yuccas in tree form in S. Jersey. I have seen some here that are forming trunks (could be Y. gloriosa or recurvifolia). If that is what you actually have, then even cutting the tap root probably wouldn't kill it. LOL If it does get stressed, it puts up pups around the base. And although one might think of them as being desert plants (and I am sure that a number of species are), there are some like Y. filamentosa more commonly seen around these parts, that can grow near water believe it or not. One of my sisters has one at her house that the previous owners planted literally on a creek bank. And the thing had the nerve to bloom! The tap root made a bee line for the creek too!

Go on and plant and it might sulk for the season, but by next year, it should hopefully be okay.

Thanks for the info but both of you are thinking about the wrong yucca's . Mine is a tree type with a truck about a foot across and its 6 feet tall . This isnt the low wild type you see growing all over . The last time I priced one was about 3 years ago they were selling for $55.00 a foot so this one is worth about $300.00 + .If it was one of those Adams needle yucca's , I wouldnt have bothered with it . As for blooming , I've never seen one of these bloom . Rick

are its leave thin and soft, by soft i mean bendable/flexible. of are they very wide and rigid totally unbendable.
i grow 2 types in my yard in north jersey one with the soft leaf is yucca rostrata the other type is faxsoniana strong unbendable leaves.
i don't know how to post pictures on this board or i would post shots of mine for you.

but i would put it in a raised bed as soon as possible that drains fast these 2 types of yuccas that i have do not like wet feet for the winter, and i would think your yucca wouldn't like wet feet either unless its recurvafolia but i never seen one of those with a 1 foot wide trunk.

I have a yucca tree not sure what kind it is but it has sturdy sharp pointed green leaves it said on the label when i got it yucca then something else cane tree...I'm not exactly sure how to take care of it I live in canada and we get some cold winters here how can i maintain it inthe winter as well as the summer I know nothing of these trees ...lol...

On my yucca tree at the bottom is another sprout growing out of the base of the trunk near the soil??

I have a yucca tree, not sure what kind, It has bendable leaves and lookes like a coconut tree to me. I am having trouble with it. I have it in the house and it has started loosing it's top leaves. It has 2 small sprouts growing from the base. What should I do?
