Teeny tiny white little bug things???

hey all

i was just starting to put some plantnings in a new garden bed i just had installed (yes i am too busy with 3 small kids to remove vast quantities of grass and put down mulch :), when i noticed what looked like hundreds of tiny hoppinh round whiteish bugs on the border between the lawn and the garden. if i put my brown gardening glove near them they would hop about... what on earth are they? i am talking _small_.

Maybe white flies? You say they fly about when you go near them? Sounds like it. But I have only seen them on the leaves of my plants. In fact I found some on my morning glory vines leaves....Not sure if yours are white flies..

Are you talking about these things being on plants or on the soil? Springtails would behave that way on the soil and teensy little leafhoppers would be on plants of many kinds.

thanks. rhizo_1 i think thats it. springtails! they are on the soil... on the edge of the mulch/lawn.
i looked them up online and they sound just like what i saw. i think i have the globular kind... they hop like tiny fleas. apparently they are harmless.
