Wow! I can't believe that! I moved here from Louisiana 8 years ago and thought I had left that kind of crazy weather behind me! I didn't get anything like hail, but the wind is really giving my roses a run for their money!

It's ridiculous I know. I no, no one may have crazier weather than NJ! :)

All things considered, it's been a beaufiful spring Tea. Most of my spring rhodie/azalea blooms have been lengthened because of the cool, dry weather.

While that system spinning in place over Western NY has resulted in one of the most abysmal songbird migrations in years, I'm comfortable in the fact that we get weather anomalies such as we're encountering this year from time to time and that this year's dearth of songbirds is attributable to the weather and nothing else.

Relative to your post.....well, hail is indeed unusual for NJ . The breeze has been stiff and non stop; it could be worse (being cold & rainy) and living hear within a mile of the beach, it's been especially 'cool'. Rain has picked up of late, but what we don't need are those recent heavy deluges that run off quickly.

Tea, it will only take the first heat wave to have most of us clamoring for this type of spring weather when the humidity begins equalling the temperature and we're wilting........

Don't have to tell me about the abysmal songbird migration, Ted. Remember, I'm the one who planned sick leave so I could watch the birds! Told my employer that I'm just going to have to do this again next year and hope that it's better.

We've had some nice soaking rain and yet I went out yesterday to an "island" in my swamp to plant a couple of mayapples and was astounded that the soil was not wetter. That said, I had difficulty finding a place to plant the mayapples because of all the jack-in-the-pulpit and Solomon's seal seedlings. (Also noticed many, many chestnut oak seedlings in an uplands area. I need to get out and fence a couple of those off from the deer.)

While there were warblers (even a Sc. Tanager) in the trees this morning as I walked the pooch, I've almost become oblivious to what's in the canopy.

Don't throw in the towel yet. There's always that rogue thrush (Gr cheeked or Swainson's) and some empys to go along with those warblers this weekend with the prospective warmup.

Btw, I was at Freylinhuesen a few weeks back. While I didn't see all of it, it is outstanding. A jewel for not only Morris Co., but all of NJ.
