Well, that's a lot of territory. In Monmouth, Gasko's in Englishtown for annuals. Probably be packed, though, they always are on weekends. 9 - 3 Sunday and Monday (Memorial Day). Sickles Market in Little Silver, plants and eats, but pricey.

Try Atlock Farms in Somerset NJ and Cicconi Farms in Monmouth Also Morganville Flower Farm on rt 79 in Morganville in Middlesex

Other than that, I strongly second Tiarella's choices;
Atlock will have the most novel choices at the higher
prices, but I go at least once a season to just stroll in their incredible gardens. Morganville is forever surprising me with his novelties and healthy specimans;
prices are reasonable. Cicconi has a good selection, but
their best deal is on mixed flats of 4" perennials; don't
just settle for what's displayed up front - amble back into
the dozens of greenhouses and you'll be amazed what you
discover. They were the ONLY place, for example, other than mail-order, that I was able to unearth stylophorum

I like Livingston Park Nursery on How Lane in New Brunswick, just off Livingston Avenue. Mel (the owner) has a great selection of inexpensive small-sized standard perennials. Many in my garden came from there. Early in the season he has perennials in small peat pots for 1.25 or 1.50. I even get my mums for the fall like that.
