I tried one last year up here in zone 6. It didn't return. I really didn't mulch it properly either. I grew it in a hot sandy location but not quite a 'hellstrip'. I don't remember seeing it wilt at all. If you could get one at a good price, it's worth a try. You could always pot it up too. I got mine from Fairweather.

Musa Basjoo will grow in zone 6. I was just at someone's house who has one growing. Her method for mulching it was to cut it down to about 1 1/2-2' tall at the end of the season. She covers it with garbage can with a hole at the top. She fills it with pine needles and then covers that with plastic. It's been growing for several years like that and grows about 10' feet tall during the summer. Her method to mulch was easy and I'm going to try it with my banana that I got this year.
