Wait til after the first frost, cut the stems back to about an inch, and dig them up with a spading fork, being careful not to dig too close to the bulbs so as not to damage them. Lift them, and replant in their new location. If they are not hardy in your area (I don't know if they are) you can store them over winter Clean them, dry them, dust them with a fungicide and store them in a paper bag with peat in a cool dry area, and replant in the spring. You can make more by peeling of a few of the corns ( looks like a garlic clove) and planting it up seperately.

Best time to transplant in the fall after the foliage has matured (yellowed). If you do not expose the bulb and roots to air, they will never know they are in another location...move the clump with dirt - in the ground one year they shouldn't need dividing.

The biggest mistake is to give the bulbs extra water to cover "transplant shock"; after watering them in, don't water again until the soil is dry at least two inches below the surface.

My experience with these is that they are pretty hardy and easy multipliers. I dig some of mine up every fall and split them up. After only three years I now have over 100!

You would have to be very, very careful, so you do not accidentally break a sprout. If the sprout is broken, it will not grow another one the same season and you will have no bloom from that bulb. The ideal time to transplant is in the fall after the foliage has matured
