I believe this is a tropical plant grown in Florida, so maybe if you posted your question on the Florida Gardening or Tropical Plants Forum you would get some help from the folks on those forums.

It might have had too much water over the winter. They seem to prefer being on the dry side. You could try half-strength Miracle-Gro or similar as the weather warms up/dries out. Some now and another splash for Xmas...

I think I would cut the leaves back, and trim it up. It will probably come back fine. If it came through your winter, It should do alright. I have to cover mine to protect it from the freezes we have in the Florida panhandle. I also have to trim the leaves in the spring.
