Fortunately, I haven't seen a gypsy moth yet this year. I did notice a lot of leafless trees on my drive to Lake Ontario last month. I was wondering if they had anything to do with that.

Cool wet weather in spring kills the catepillars. It causes a fungal disease. If the disease is active in your area, you should see lots of stunted and shriveled up catapillars on the trunks of oak trees. This has certainly been the case here in southeastern MA where we had a very cool and wet spring. So I am hoping we will have a much smaller catepillar population next year.
