There is sweet box in my home garden (now zone 7) and at a public garden in the area (zone 6b) and it does just fine.

Mine suffered from too much sun after Sandy ripped the crown off the oak overhead, but it seems to be recovering nicely. It had been enjoying dappled shade during all but the early morning hours and is now getting full a.m. sun, with dappled shade beginning about noon.

O.K.-thank you! I heard it's "unreliable" from a frost standpoint in 6b on some web sites. But we have a perfect shady location near the house for them-I think I'll give it a try.

I have sarcococca hookeriana var. humilis for years in shade on the north side of the house. It has done fine. I'm zone 6. My mother grows it too in the next town.

It does well for me in shade.
