Weeping Willow Cuttings

Hello,

about 3 weeks ago I took about 10 1.5' long very thin end cuttings of a mature tree. I'm keeping the cuttings together with a rubber band in a tall glass of water that I change every other day on an outside Southeast window sill.

Initially the cuttings defoliated with the ends turning black (I cut it off). Now there are many pinkish unbranching inch long roots, and the old leaf scars have rebudded and are currently opening tiny leaves.

My question is, when do I transfer from the glass of water to a tall treepot?

Hi Rob - I usually plant my cuttings when it looks like they have sufficient roots to survive in soil. From your description it sounds like they are ready to be potted up. They may need more than normal water for a few days until they get used to the soil.

I didn't want to wait too long because they seem to be growing rather quickly now. Are they ok to spend their first winter indoors?
