Basically, corn needs to be planted in blocks of at least 4 rows by 4 rows. Alternatively, if you have permanent beds (like me) you can plant in hills (not really raised areas, just circles) of three plants staggered up the 4 ft wide bed, the hills about 2 1/2 feet apart. This works for the open pollinated corn I grow, Golden Bantam, but may not work for the newer supersweet corns.

Also, if you grow supersweet corns (I don't like them--too sweet and not enough real corn flavor), don't plant another variety that tassels at the same time. The cross pollination will ruin the supersweet variety.
