Hi, I am curious as to how you folks fared with tomatoes. They came on strong and hard for several weeks, when the high temps (I think) got to them. We did Supersweet, Better Boy and Yellow Pear.

They did quite well for a while, but the bushes look more like scorched toast than anything else nowadays.

Maybe a reprieve in the next few weeks?

I too am happy that we're not supposed to bust a hundred this week. Especially since We just received some mail order plants for fall planting. The vender recommended getting them later in Sept. but I just couldn't wait. They looked a little cooked from being a couple days in a hot box in transit but since putting them in the ground with a good soaking they're perking up.

Beca, we have chickens so we make the tomato hornworms we find - and any other bug of size - walk the plank into the chicken yard where they know just what to do with them.

Drahme I too have fried tomato plants. If you cut them back they can revive and bear more tomatoes in the fall but I think mine are beyond that. I've been looking for tomato plants to try for a fall crop. I did that last year but haven't found any yet this year. Plant world says they'll get some in around the fiftenth. I didn't want to wait so I started my fall crop from seed.

I have had good luck with onions, broccoli raab, lettuce, and onions in the fall. That's when I also plant peas but they won't actually bear fruit until next spring.

I love this time of year too. makes me feel like getting out in the garden again and I know I've survived another killer summer here!

My tomatoes are having a small reprieve and I have tomatoes to pick again-thank goodness. No more hornworms-I'd like to "think" I got rid of them from the garden (again) Maria-I'd love to give them to your chickens to eat. LOL. I was going to pull the plants out but I will wait a few weeks now. I have a bed that I can plant in now. All that is in it now is one pepper plant and some parsley. I'm thinking of growing lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower and some onions & garlic.
I also love the fall weather.

None of my peppers even bloomed until after the hot weather went away. We are still in the nineties most days, but the peppers are now growing like weeds! I was so disappointed earlier with them, I was ready to rip them all out! Thank goodness I got busy! lol

It feels like Fall here in Phoenix! We had 71°-88° yesterday. I am going to buy a 3lb bag of garlic at Costco today so I can start planting it. I want lots of green garlic!!!

I have wondered what happened to you. I figured maybe you dropped off the side of the earth...;) Nice hearing from you here. How are your banana plants doing? It was cooler here today too-loved it. I have to get out back to plant, clean out,etc...the vegetable beds. I need to but I don't want to do the work. LOL. I am just being lazy. I guess I will drag myself out there one of these days. Geezzzzz.

Hi Beca-
I sometimes fall on the face of the earth, but have not fallen off the side yet! I got gun shy. Then my phone line went out.
The bananas are enjoying the weather. A new bud is ready to open. All of the fruiting stalks had been lost to the wind, EXCEPT the one that started to open on my birthday.
Autumn is here! Get those laz(zzzzzz)y bones moving.
I did not get the garlic planted yet. I did not buy it. Maybe tomorrow? Mañana? Earthquakes? I do not remember how it feels. It has been a long time since I felt one.
The monsoon is over.

HELLLLLLLLOOOOOOO everyone!!

There "is" an echo in here Jason!!!! LOL. I was in so. California visiting my kids over the weekend. I knew we were expected to get high winds while we were gone...and we did :(:( I found a big limb totally broken off of my young apple tree. Dang it. I do have the one baby apple still growing-thank goodness :):)
I am glad you have at least the one banana stalk!! Happy Birthday!! I thought of you a few weeks ago when we had those monsoons and everything going on down there in Arizona.
I would also vote for just having spring and fall too. A little bit of beautiful winter weather would be okay too. Summer heat I could totally do without.
I have not heard of any earthquakes in Nevada, thank goodness. California-I've been through enough of them. You get used to riding them out and rating them and watching or listening to the news and seeing if you were right. LOL. Not even bother if they are not rated a "5" or higher.
Soooooo I have tons to do now. My tomatoe plants are all doing great again...:):) I have another vegetable bed that is empty and ready for some work and planting. Of course this means I have to go out in it and do the work. Also have some container pots to replace plants in them. Hmmmm...geezzz...I would like a magic wand to do the work!!! POOF!! It's done. Maybe we should have a contest on who finishes their fall work first?? LOL.

Now.......let's all get to work!! (maybe that's where everyone is Jason?)

You have lots of Magic Wands! They are called FINGERS!!! Get them into that dirt, it is theraputic.
The new banana is opening and showing more bananas. Now I have 2 stalks again.
My memories of earthquakes were in San Diego(actually National City). You wouldn't even count them.
The worst thing about winter here is the "snow birds." I do get some frost damage.
I did not answer the roll call because I am not a legal resident of Nevada.
