I'm sorry Kathy, did you say something? I'm entranced by all the gorgeous sun dappled space you have! Being in michigan I don't have any experience with growing in a hot climate but I love the look of your JE. I just got one and it's quite tall and can only hope it turns out like yours.

I don't know what you mean,when you say hostas are shorter in the south? Mine are taller than any I have ever seen,including Van Wades! Phil

Phil, I think the mountain climate is more like a northern climate than us lowlanders have here in NC. We are north of I-40, but only about ten miles. How far from Asheville are you?

I keep running up against the fact that although I have tons of knowledge about hostas from reading this forum, my experiential knowledge is only one year deep. I got my first mail order hostas a year ago. So what that means for ya'll is every time I'm baffled about what's going on in my garden, I run inside and whine to the hosta forum. Wahhh! My hostas are flat! What's going to happen? What should I do? Becoming a hosta fanatic before the internet must have been a true labor of love.

Here's the other two flat hostas. Aristocrat and Fragrant Queen. FQ has put out a lot of new growth in the last few weeks. Maybe it has upward aspirations.

Kathy,I'm in Franklin,about 60 miles southwest of Ashville. My garden is in the woods,with high shade from Oaks,Poplars,and Dogwoods,so hostas always reach up for the sky,thence tall hostas. Phil
