I don't have a deer problem here in the city; however, Select Seeds puts out a catalog that, among other things, indicates which flowers etc are deer resistant. It's a nice tool.

I have Select Seeds catalog. Unfortunately, the deer can't read and they are eating plants that are "supposed" to be deer resistant! About the only thing they don't eat is lavendar and iris. I was hoping someone would have a recipe for something to put on or around plants that really works.

The biggest reason you can't go by the Deer Won't Touch lists is because their natural food supply is so very limited. They will try anything, whether they would normally eat it or not. They have no choice.

There are a number of good deer repellents on the market but they need to be reapplied often. How much anyone can afford to do this, I don't know. There is one called This One Really Works, and several that have coyote urine in them. Check out the garden centers in your area...they probably deal with the question all the time.

One of the biggest no-no's in your yard if you have deer visiting regularly is hosta. It's salad for them....they will go after it first. It's hard to let go of these plants but if the deer know you have them they will keep visiting, hoping there is more to be found.

I have some luck with a electric fence used for cattle.

This may sound strange, but it sure has worked for me ... Arm & Hammer Pet Fresh Carpet & Room Deodorizer. I sprinkle it lightly on my 'deer salad' flowers and they do not touch them. The ones I did not sprinkle got munched to the ground. You can get it at Dollar General for $1.50 a box, so it would be worth trying to see if it works for you too.

Wow, your problem sounds awful. So much for the symbols in the catalogs huh? Where are you located? I can't even imagine your frustration.

I hope the deer neighbors have something that works for you. Jeez.

Try placing a feeder away from the garden. If a better tasting food is available they will leave your plants alone. Be careful, it may draw more deer in.
