Two intrepid Iris(es)

On my way to work this morning, I saw a very unusual sight. One of the homes along the way has a bed approx. 10ft. long by 5 ft wide that is filled with iris--and is anchored by just one laceleaf Japanese maple at the end.

Two of the iris, both yellow flowered ones, are BLOOMING! Poor things... guess that they don't know the temps are supposed to get down to 27 degrees tonight here in the Cleveland area!

For blooms that are so delicate and fragile looking, they are tremendously harder, aren't they? I love 'em!

There are lots of irises that are rebloomers. I love them twice!

Ah, I didn't even think about the fact that they might be rebloomers. They just looked so lonely in the huge bed of iris foliage that I assumed they were confused! Good point, though. :)

The flowers are now gone, but the lonely little stalks are still sticking up out of the foliage bed. At this point, we probably won't see any more until next year... *sigh*
