Prairie Moon needs a talkin' to about the seasons

My Prairie Moon I got in June thinks it's still time to put up some new leaves. I was out taking last pictures of everything and saw it's still pushing along. This cool summer has everything confused. New hosta growth next to red maple leaves and falling acorns.

Ignored, I haven't kept a record of temperatures here but we are in the same zone. I've had Prairie Moon for five years and never seemed to be bothered by the cold. It is one of the brightest here early in the season.

if its doing it of its own accord... not much to do about it ...

if its doing it.. because of fert.. then you will learn your lesson ... fert would include anything you put in the hole.. other than soil ..

sounds like you are making an observation.. rather than worried about it.. good

Nope, I don't fertilize. I think it's just the weather. And yes, just observing and amused by it. I'm sure it'll be fine in the long run. If anything can survive our polar vortex winter last year, I think it and others will be okay. :) maybe they even liked it, who knows!

I know it's an old thread, but...have you had any trouble with H. Prairie Moon making it through very cold winters? Heard something about it possibly not being as cold hardy as others.

Old Dirt, thank you much! It's a beauty. Guess I got another one added on to the list that I shouldn't have made in the first place...hosta wishlist troubles :)

No problems here (-20Celsius)...

And while you are composing your hosta wish list, find a good friend for Prairie Moon, yellow hostas look so much better when not alone. In my case it is Mourning Dove...

Beautiful as always, Karin! I do have "plenty" of blue hostas. That's pretty much all I had up until last year, LOL. Yellow ones looked weird to me (like hostas going down for the year), but got a few of those late last year too. We'll see what I still have this year...if/when this snow finally leaves. It's been such a tease, just as it almost melts, more falls to cover everything back up. Sedums emerged quite a while ago, but I think that everything else is still sleeping. All the chipmunks we had in the yard last year has me worried about this year. Those guys were digging all over the place (and the mole wasn't exactly helping either). Anyhow, I probably just keep repeating myself at this point. Hope everyone's doing well and hanging in there for the final stretch of winter.

Oh, I'm glad that I'm living in the middle of town, no voles, no moles, no chipmunks (they are so cute). Only an occasional squirrel from time to time and a pair of magpies that comes every spring. With all your blue ones you will find a perfect friend for Prairie moon. I also love to add a little color...
I have to go outside and look for those pots and I will add a green one this year. Unfortunately my Mühlenbeckia had been killed by the last frost period.
