Wild cucumber will do the trick!

Just remember that wild cucumber is an annual although it does reseed itself freely and you don't have to worry about saving seeds for the following year.

Lilacs are fist growing and beautiful. They make a good hedge.

Eastern white cedar (thuja occidentalis) varieties such as 'brandon' as hardy to zone 3 (2?) and winter resistant. They only grow maybe 4 feet wide and 12 feet high (wider/higher with old age).

I guess it depends on how much room you have for width and depth and the ultimate height and shape you want. You usually plant them closer together to get a dense hedge.

I like the lilac idea, but i don't seem to have great success with them, willow is another great idea to consider, I would like to see what white cedar looks like.

Dear Meinpg . I had the same problem . I wanted a chainlink fence and yet I wanted privacy. My solution was Virginia creeper. I planted it about 4 years ago and the north and west sides of my yard are impregnable in the late spring to midfall months. If you know someone with any I'm sure they would be willing to share with you. The trick is it soak it in water till rootlets form and them bury it lenghtwise so that all of the rootlets grow into the ground and each of these ends will climb. A wall if invisibility in afew years. Carole
