There's a reason that the most famous song about Oklahoma, from the musical of the same name, has this line: "Oklahoma! Where the wind comes sweepin' down the plain."

This is a common question and everyone has their own little tricks to keep the mulch in place. A lot just depends on your particular topography though because you're always going to have trouble if you are in a high, exposed location without any windbreaks around.

As for the rubber mulch, I don't really know why it would stay in place any better unless it is really, really significantly heavier. And, I also wonder if it would wash away in a heavy thunderstorm. Maybe someone who has tried it will let you know.

You must have used the small pine bark mulch?? The hardwood mulches seem to pack down and lock together better. We put down cedar mulch, it seems to repel the critters a little better. Or maybe I just tell myself that because I like it so much!
