Vining Okra seed!

This is just to let you guys know, I didn't forget about sending you your seeds! Ilene, yours got out today. And George's and Paula's will be mailed out tomorow. Now, due to lack of funds, I've sent them in regular envelopes wrapped with some paper towels. If the seeds don't survive the trip, I will resend in bubble envelopes, promise! I sent alot more than 20 seeds to each of ya'll, so I'm hoping it's all good. :)

Sorry again it's taken me so long!

I KNOW how that it Beth! You might already know and do this. But when I find a sheet of bubble wrap I'll sometimes cut it and make some little pouches from it. Then I can safely send seeds in a regular envelope. It looks "cheap," ... but it is!

CLEVER IDEA! I don't have any bubble wrap right now tho, my four year old finds it fascinating... :). I would've just sent yours in the envelope you sent me, but he got a hold of that too, lol! Next sheet I get is getting put away tho!

I'm glad your understanding about this! This is my first real trades, wish things had gone a tad bit smoother. :)

Beth, I think they'll do fine. I send seeds that way, too, if they're flat or small and they get there ok. My post office wants at least $1.37 or something like that to send a small bubble envelope but I can get away with sending in a regular envelope for just two stamps. Sometimes I tape the little packages down to the paper towel or piece of bubble wrap to keep them from moving around and "bulking up" in one spot.

The cost of mailing makes it hard to save money by trading seeds, but we'll keep trying!

Speaking of seed trading, I've noticed the OK forum has an exchange but it is not used very frequently. I know the group did a Christmas swap and also gets together sometime in the spring but are there any other times for semi-organized trading within the group?

I'm sure the "regulars" here have been gardening for so long that they have their own seed store - so it may not be a huge attraction unless someone (you know who you enablers are) talks up a variety which stirs excitement. :-)

My apologies Beth, I believe I qualify as a 'hijacked' thread offender.

    Ilene,
That's where I got the idea, from the seed you sent me. Remember asking me how the seeds are? Well, they're more like watermelon seeds, small and flat and quite sturdy. They're like zuke seeds when they're fresh. I think they'll be just fine... hoping so!

    carsons mimi,
No problem on the threadjacking! I don't mind stuff like that... and you posed a good question! Maybe need to do a seperate thread to get everyone's attention on the subject, tho. :)

Mimi, I always forget to check the exchange page myself since this is where the action is. If nothing else, you could post on the exchange page and then a heads-up thread over here. Personally, I'd like the exchanges not on a separate page but I'm not sure how strict GW is on that.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has to fight for bubble wrap! The stuff is under the penalty of death and dismemberment in this house but the little squirts still manage to get in a few pops!

I like to trade seed with people from OK and the Ozarks region because I feel like I'm getting something that will grow well here.

I don't know how many times I've wasted my time, etc., trading for seed for plants that won't make it through the heat of the summer, or that need a longer growing season than I have or that need a couple of years to fully mature but can't tolerate the winters we have.

That said, I have had some very nice trades over on the seed exchange forum and have met some very nice people. I've also run into a few huffy people who think that just because they've had a bad experience they have to take it out on everyone, or who seem to think that everything they have is so much more valuable than anything anyone else could send them, that they turn me off. But if you read what they write at the beginning of their seed and plant lists, you can generally spot one of those.

    Diane,
I can't really complain about my little guy loving bubble wrap, I'm the one who taught him how to pop it... LOL! Maybe I can do the "one for me, one for you" thing. :)

    Ilene,
I'm prefering to keep my trading in our little circle here, myself. I am talking with a few ladies on my parenting site I do, and we're THINKING of doing some trades... but the thought of what will work for everyone keeps us from jumping right in. We're talking ladies from Cali to Florida.
I think the seed exchanges are a WONDERFUL thing, but I really don't have alot of money to put into postage. Maybe someday I'll get into that aspect of this, tho. :)

    Hey Beth!

Got my seeds today! Weird it took 5 days, but that's to be expected if there's a holiday in there too!

Gonna shoot you back some hycinth beans by...say Thursday. Anything else you're looking for? Might as well put it in the same packet if I'm mailing to save on postage later! Let me know? I've still got a few extra of some things except zucchini. I ordered broccoli from Willhite...and I've got 300...yikes! I don't need that many right now even if I plant both a spring and fall crop! Got a few others too so shoot me an e-mail or post here if there's anything else you're needing/wanting and I'll see what I have. I'm happy to share.

I'm glad they made it! I was wondering! It did take about five days for me to receive the seeds from Dawn, so you never know. Just the beans would be just fine, I'm actually getting a fairly decent amount of things to try this season... I'm wondering where to put it all, LOL! :)

    Hi Beth,
Do you have any more okra seeds to share? I have some Shark Fin Melon Patch (cucurbita ficifolia) seed if you want to try them.
    Thank you
