How low will it go?!

minus 3.2 at 11:45 after dropping from plus 5 at 8:30....not good!

We're still a lot better than some places. Hopefully everyone makes it through the next 12 hours with no serious damage. It will be interesting to see what (if any) plants die tonight.

My new weather station is at the farm and nobody is there tonight, but I will be able to download the data later to see exactly how cold it got there.

I'm sleeping on the sofa and feeding the fireplace every couple of hours tonight. It's nice and toasty right now. This house is only 5 years old so it has never seen anything close to where we are going tonight (fingers crossed). Last week we only got down to 0 one night and 2 another night.

Scot, It is minus 9 here at 12:31 AM

Good luck to you over there. It's now -7.2 here at 12:45. The stations along the river all report similar numbers, but the rest of the stations within 20 miles are more like 0 to 3. Not that worrying about it will help, but I may not get much sleep tonight.

It is 9 above here, the computer says its 17 in Ft. Smith. Even tho I am 15 miles south of Ft. Smith I most often have a colder temp. Its 12:45 AM

I feel for everyone. We are around 6 above right now which is the lowest it has been. Looking at 35 today and close to 50 tomorrow and 70's next Tuesday and Wed. Will be time to get out the Bermudy's, sun glasses and sun tan lotion. Most of our snow will be gone by Monday and Wed for sure. Hope everyone was able to stay warm and not much more froze. I know Tulsa has been hit hard the last 2 weeks. I've been trying to order a part from a company and they've been out of the office all but 2 days since a week ago Tuesday. Jay

I just saw on the news that it was -21 in Ponca City. Isn't that record breaking lows? I don't recall temps ever being that low in Oklahoma. Y'all bundle up good and stay warm now.

Don't forget your pets in this weather. Did you see that story about someone who left their dog tied up at one of the animal rescue sites tied to a pole, no food, no water, overnight and during the storm? So cruel. My cats would not know what it is like for their paws to touch snow! Spoiled children, they are.

The NWS and the Grove Airport are showing us at minus 20 at 8:11 AM.

We were a toasty warm 9 degrees at midnight, which was just a couple of degrees warmer than our forecast low, so I thought we were going to get colder than they said.

Our official low at our Burneyville mesonet station was 3 degrees and at our house the lowest was 2 degrees on the front porch thermometer at around 7 a.m. I feel like we're having a heat wave compared to those of you in northeastern OK.

We're headed for a forecast high of 34 degrees and have clear, sunny skies so I think our piddly amount of sleet and snow will met.

At least one local school here had classes today (which may not be a popular decision with the parents who had to get out and drive on ice in temperatures only slightly above zero) on a 1-hour delayed opening, but the others all closed.

We won't be quite as warm as Jay next week, but we should be up in the 60s most days and near 70 by Wed.

I hope everyone's pipes remained unfrozen and houses remained warm, and that the snow/ice melt as quickly as possible.

Your temperatures may not be anything like those recorded at the mesonet stations near you, but I've linked them for comparison purposes.

We hit -12 at my place, but it is sunny now so It will warm up nicely in the greenhouses today. I will be heading to OKC on Saturday for a Plasticulture workshop. hope the roads clear off nicely.....

Well, when I woke up at 7:40 it was -17.5, but it is now just -10. I wonder what it got down to just before the sun came out.

The temps in the valleys in Bixby, BA, and Wagoner were 10 degrees colder than the surrounding areas this morning. Still not as cold as the -24 that they had in a few areas N of Tulsa and near Ponca. Just amazing.

-12 on my way in to work at 7:30 glad to see the sun!

Thanks for that link, Dawn. It has Bixby with a min of -22. I would have liked to have seen it with my own eyes, but I expect we got down to around -20 here also.

I thought maybe my thermometer was messed up last night since our readings were quite a bit lower than the mesonet stations to our south, but when I found the stations along the river near Bixby here, our temps matched theirs all night long so it is probable pretty close to correct. I can't wait to download the data from the Davis Pro station at the farm.

The thermometer at my house 4 miles north of Collinsville said -24.9 at 7:00 AM this morning. Unbelievable.

My dogs said they would rather just pee in the house than go out. It took meat to get them to go out. These are big boys that have only come in for this weather. Other days they burst out the door.

    Scott,

You're welcome. I thought everyone might like seeing what it looked like all over our state early this morning.

I cannot even imagine having the kind of low temperatures that y'all had up there. With those kinds of low temperatures, can you imagine what your wind chill must have been?

This week's weather brought epic snowfall and cold temperatures that we likely will be talking about for years and years. It is simply amazing.

At our house, our temperatures often vary greatly from those at our Mesonet station at Burneyville, and often are close to those recorded at the Gainesville airport. This morning, though, our temp only differed from Burneyville's by one degree.

Currently, we're at 34 degrees and the thaw has begun. I can hear the steady drip, drip, drip of ice and snow melting off the roof and the trees and you can see the puddles of melting snow on the lawn. We're already at our forecast high for the day, so I think we'll get warmer than they forecasted. I hope the rest of y'all get warmer than forecasted too. We need for the Big Thaw to begin in earnest and melt alway all the ice and snow so everyone can get back to their normal routines.

I have a lot of sympathy for all those whose school schedules have been wrecked by this snow. It sure is going to be hard to make up all the missed days.

Here in southern Tulsa county between Broken Arrow and Bixby, my current temp is 12 degrees. This is with the sun shining!

Geez, guys! I was just reading Ilene's blog where she mentioned how cold it was so, of course, had to pop over here to see how widespread it was. Dang, that's cold! We only got down to -11 last night so we were tropical compared to some of you.

Jay? 70s?? I saw 40s for us starting Sunday and 50s Wednesday and Thursday. 70s?? So not fair.
