I don't have the numbers to report on that you do, Scott, but as you may recall I have 2 Blue Crop and 1 Elliott. One of the Blue Crop's is lagging behind the other one, in growth and production. The other Blue Crop and the Elliott are doing very well. We'll see what happens soon enough.

So, you have decided to continue growing blueberries for farmer's markets? I thought I remember you saying something about not doing blueberries except for your own personal consumption???

How/what do you feed your shrubs, other than the typical fert for acid loving plants?

Hi Scott,

Thank you for sharing your experience with growing blueberries. I am very interested in growing my own blueberries since they are my favorite fruit. I live in the OKC metro area (Edmond). Last year I planted two BlueCrop and one Duke. Only one BlueCrop survived, the one that got the most shade from the house. Of course it was a really hot summer and I probably didn't get them in the ground early enough. I'm going to try again this summer, but I was thinking of trying Sunshine Blue and Bountiful Blue, both southern highbush varieties that TLC carries. I am planting them in front of my house as ornamental shrubs. Do you think southern highbush would handle our heat better than the northern highbush? Have you tried growing either of these varieties?

For soil I build a raised area with peat moss and bark mulch and a bit of sand. It tested as pretty acidic when I planted them last spring, but I picked up a bag of Espoma Soil Acidifier because I figured the soil is probably getting more alkaline as I'm using city water. Do you think this is the best way to plant blueberries here, or would containers filled with peat moss work better?
