Need suggestions for plantings in problem area

Hi All,

I need suggestions on which small trees would best be suited for a low lying area of my yard - which undergoes a couple weeks of flooding in April and during periods of heavy rainfall.

A few trees that I have considered, but read differing information on include:

- Salix caprea (Pink Pussy Willow)

- Vibrurnum triloba (American Highbush Cranberry)

- Cornus alternifolia (Pagoda Dogwood)

- Sambucus canadensis(Elderberry)

Am I on the right track? Any other suggestions are warmly welcomed. Thank you for your help!

Hi Chelsea,

How about a dwarf Birch, Betula pendula 'Trost Dwarf' or B. pendula 'Youngii'? They are moisture loving!

Oh btw, I noticed your from zone 2, com' and join us at the Far North Forum, I'm sure you'll get lots of advice over there for zone 2.

I also have a low spot in my yard that floods the first few weeks of spring. I have a plum tree in that area that has been doing very well for the past 3 years. I'd like to plant some flowers, or shrubs around it if at all possible. Any suggestions?
