Pretty sure this guy is a phalaenopsis type, could be an Australian though, the lone remaining cane (he's not in the greatest of shape, I won't see these flowers again for a few years at best) looks similar to an Australian I have.

It is very difficult to say in some cases if an orchid is a species or a hybrid. There are some very suspect clones of Dendrobium bigibbum seen at orchid shows. Den bigibbum is very closely related to Dendrobium phalaenopsis.

Damn! That helps nada..... I appreciate it though. I had done the google search and came to the same conclusion, was kinda hoping someone who had one of these types would chime in. I guess the antelope one is safe with no rest since neither antelopes or den phals need a rest. The potential phal worries me though. I'm prolly gonna treat it like an Australian and see how it goes.

I have all of these types, the only problem is that even though the micro-climate in the yard is zone 10, some of these Dens are difficult and zone 10 isn't 6B.
We do not have those zones here... "the climate zone here is described as sub-tropical"... pretty sub sometimes.
What is this treat it like an Australian business, I assumed you were talking about Den. bigibbum but maybe you meant something else?

The biggibum looking one is the one I'm talking about. The lone remaining cane looks like my other Australian, but the flowers are making me iffy on it. I've got a few different kinds of dendrobiums, the only one I've killed so far is a latourea, so I think I'm ok on keeping it alive, just was wondering if it was an Australian or not, as they require a rest and phalaenopsis don't.

And by Australian I mean hard caned if that clears up any confusion
