Spring Swap?

Hi everyone! I know, I know...I have been MIA for over a year!

Last year we found out my mother had cancer, we lost her in August. Duringher illness thoughI am still waiting to see what survived the neglect. So far, my shamrocks, oregano, echinechia, lambs ears, cat nip and even my shasta daisies were coming up under a layer of leaves.

Remember the strawberry hill I had planned and even had the mound of dirt made? I gave that idea upa nd last weekend ended up shoveling that pile over the fense to cover a area of my side yard being destroyed by rude people parking on it. (towards the back of my yard). I spread it out and threw some seed down and put signs and refelctor spike out. I hope it works.

Now it is time to get back intot he swing of my flower garden plans so I am anxious to see everyone again at a swap. Is there one being planned? I can dig some lilac bushes to bring. (I am the one who brought the bushes a couple of years ago with the blonde daughter who like to come hang with us lol)

I searched to see if it had been brought up yet and didn't see it anywhere. Lt me know...I canbe reached at dvlwitgrneyes@aol.com

I hoping we will do a spring swap. I can reserve the pavillion and pick up the key, but I'm hopig some one else can do the planning/organizing. I volunteered to work with a community garden at the Village Library and I am swamped. I vote for the last weekend in April or first weekend in May.

So any volunteers to plan the spring swap?

What needs to be done? I'd LOVE to help out. I haven't ever organized an event but tell me what needs to be done and I will help.

Where was that park we had it at 2 years ago?

We need to plan a pot luck?

    Time?

    Day?

    Food?

    Door prizes?

    What else?

First, how many are wanting to come this year?

I could come maybe. I work every other weekend. I don't have a lot because I've only been at this place for three years. I could trade

    Naked lady lilies (surprise lilies)
    Iris (mostly unnamed)
    daylilies
cannas (survived the freezes under heavy mulch, yay!)
Cuttings of shrubs, not rooted yet

Uh, mostly things that everyone has a surplus of.. never mind.

mrsfrodo do we still have money that was collected to pay rent? I know we collected some but I don't know how much you ended up getting.

Where is this swap held? I might be interested, if I knew where.

It has been held at the pavillion in Will Rogers Park in Oklahoma City in the past. It's a great place. It does cost money. At the end of the last swap we took up a collection to rent it for this year's spring swap. If mrs frodo will reply we can find out how much money she has and the cost may already be covered. All we would need would be for her to reserve a date and pickup the key for us. She lives close and has already volunteered to do this much if someone else can organize the food, door prizes, ect.

mrsfrodo, do we have enough money? I'll try to send her an email too....

Then we can pick a date. Cheryl can you organize the rest? I will probably come. Everyone else post if you can come so we can see how many are interested. Also I have another OK Gardening group that will participate. I'm guessing 4 or 5 more people.

This sounds like fun! I'd love to come and meet everyone, gets hints and tips, and swap some seeds. Having only survived for 6 months in Oklahoma, I don't have very much, next year will be a different story... as long as my gardening doesn't drive us to the poor house this year :)

My email has changed, so please use the link above to get to the correct email account.

We collected about $70. There is a $20 deposit and $20/hour fee ($80 total) for the south Will Rogers Pavillon. This is the castle where we have had the swap in the past. I got the deposit back from last spring, so we are $10 in the red for this pavillion. However, it is already rented on most dates. Another slightly cheaper option is the North Pavillion, also at Will Rogers Park. The details on the pavilions, costs, and available dates are below.

Castle Pavillion (( 100 people) $20/hour with $20 key deposit. 2 hour minimum. Has restrooms, electrical outlets, water faucet, grill and a fire place.

Sat. April 21 Booked from noon to 5PM (Not a good day for me- but we could make it work)
Sun. April 22 Available all day

Sat. April 28 Available after 2PM
Sun. April 29 Available all day

    Saturdary May 5th Not available
Sunday May 6th Booked from 3PM-9PM

North Pavillion (also in Will Rogers Park, 200 people) $15/hr, $20 deposit, 2 hour minimum.

Available Saturday April 28. May also be available other days.

I'll go by and look at the north pavillion. I don't think it is as enclosed as the castle, but should work fine. It's probably better maintained. It has restrooms, a water faucet, electrical outlets, and grill. It does not a fireplace.
    What do you think?

I think the north pavilion on april 28th would be a good day. We need a roll call.

Food? What else is there to do?

Someone will need to bring drinks, ice, plates, napkins, cups, plastic silverware. Do we want door prizes?
