Gorgeous! Where did you get this one Bruce?

Hi -- I got this maybe 12 years ago or so from Andy's. I lost the tag in the move here in 2005, but I'm certain that's where it came from.

This appears to be growing outdoors on a tree trunk. Is it hardy in zone 8a?

No -- it's not hardy, although it can take temps into the 30s...possibly even a light frost for an hour or so in its native Australia. There's only one epiphytic orchid I know of that can handle 8a, and then only in protected moist areas -- and that's Epidendrum magnoliae.

I carried the dockrillia outside and hung it on a tree for the photo. The mount is actually a very small piece of wood, that's now completely encased in roots. It's hard to tell from the photo, but the mount is hanging at a slight angle away from the trunk in the background.
