That's amazing. My neighbor has a huge Ondoglossum-type growing in a planter in dirt. Tons of blooms every year.

They are litho/epiphytes and grow on the sides of hills, in full sun, in Australia. That's why the Aussies call their speciosums 'Rock Lillies'. You have a good plant there. If it blooms without making a ton of keikis it will reward you with tons of flowers that the keiki producers will not do.

I have a gigantic delicatum that produces lack luster flowers every year. It does however produce tons of keikis, almost every cane will have a keiki. It's in a 24" square and will never be moved.

The reason I haven't tossed it is that the keikis are ready for separation for our fall show in September. I take a bag of them to the show where we raffle them off. Free orchids!! What more could one ask for.

they do not flower because of low light and they were not kept dry enough in winter. those canes can get super withered. pic is of a dendro delicatum "snow". next to it is a dendro kingainum that threw a keiki from the stem you see. I just got these. the rest of the dendro k. looks great. Just having the dendros is like having a huge orchid collection because of the way they cane and keiki. i have a few phals too. but that is great ya'll raffle. anyway,yeah,some orchid societies suggest compost, get this, cow manure composted, for some dendros. It is no surprise the o.p.'s is taking a trip on the wild terrestrial side, but for that long is about unbelievable.

Moth Orchid, this bone dry stuff is some sort of urban myth. Where they (speciosum & kingiangum = Delicatum) grow Is not a desert,
heavy rainfall can fall at any month of the year. What is needed is a winter temperature drop, especially at night , no fertiliser and high light.

Nick, they are miserable raffle prizes. i have a Delicatum which makes a zillion Kiekis. I pot them up and sell them for $1 or $2 at beginners's corner at shows.
