I am in Wilmington NC and my yard is 20% weeds 20% bermuda grass and 20% bahia grass. The remaining is bare sandy loam. I am planning on aerating and overseeding with Pensacola Bahia as it is the best performing grass that I currently have in the yard.

My question is about organic fertilizers. I want to put something out with the new seed but I don't want anything that would be considered 'pre-emergent'. I am totally new to this so I don't know what product to use. Should I be using something like cottonseed meal or alfalfa? Again, my yard is sandy - like walking on the beach. There is a farm supply store near, but I'm not sure what products they have.

What individual fertilizers (cottonseed, alfalfa, etc) have you had success with (not pre-emergent), and also any brand name blends that I could purchase on-line.
