Glenda I used to have larkspur but mine died out too. They are very bad about rotting at the base. Once you get them, they reseed. I did not plant them every year. They were coming back themselves. Maybe my mulching too much is why I don't have them now. They like drainage like shirley poppies and get ratty for me after blooming similarly. You can plant them on the snow. When you purchase seeds they don't give you enough usually to scatter willy nilly. I think it would be better to scratch a little place here and there and mark the places so you don't forget. If they get in a place they like, they make lots of seeds that you can scatter everywhere. I have read they are poison so don't let your cow eat them. I think you could winter sow a few with a little gravel for extra drainage. Transplant in big gobs because they don't transplant well but you can do it.
