To have a nice looking lawn you will need to provide irrigation if mother nature will not provide it for you. You could shoot for 1" of water ever 2 weeks in the middle of summer. Luckily for you Centipede is considered a low maintenance lawn requiring no more than one pound of nitrogen per 1000 square feet annually. I would choose Used Coffee Ground to feed your lawn @ 20lbs/1000sqft once or twice a year. You can obtain Used Coffee grounds for FREE at Starbucks and other large coffee shops. Also Centipede grass should be mulch mowed often at 1-2" for optimal performance.

I just came in from the yard and was contemplating the irrigation issue. I may do it but man what a job in this hard clay! I was planing to upgrade my 50+ year old water main this summer so I guess I could do both at the same time. just hate to do all that work for something that I wont use once the front yard evolves to a shade garden of native plants. I have St.Augustine in the back and wanting to do a meadow strip there so if I put in irrigation in the front I may try plugging the front with St.Augustine. Anyone tried this before? I wonder which would take over in the long run. I remembered as a child how I envied those that had the St.Augustine. It just looks so much better. Though I do believe it does requires more care. The areas of it with part sun is so lush at the moment. The areas of full sun are just like the front. I treated the entire yard with fish emolsion yesterday. So Coffee houses are likely to let me have there wast? I had asked Waffle House and McDonalds last year. They both refused! Said they couldn't do to liability issues! Whatever, to heck with them! I will try another place. I always wondered about additives in the flavored stuff though. I know that seems strange to worry, but look at all the other stuff in the markets not good for us!
