I'm with you on chemical fertilizers and pesticides, but genetic research can be incredibly beneficial. Combining two positive traits that already exist in nature is a good thing.
We already have a plant that does that in lawns but most people spray poisons on clover to get rid of it because the manufacturers and sellers of those poisons have determined that clover is a "weed".
