First of all, you should definitely see something in the next week and it should be pretty dramatic if your lawn still looks dormant. Last year the winter was extremely short and I even recall trees budding at the end of march. This year especially for parts of IA the winter was cold and dragged on keeping ground temps very cool with late snowfalls. Give it another week, the microbial life is just starting to decompose the gluten meal to a point where the grass can start taking in the nutrients.

The dog is providing the grass with an instant shot of fertiliser. that's why it's growing so well. The CGM will do the same thing, but it will take longer. Typically three weeks. Your grass will be green in no time.

The fact that your dog's pee spots are not dead is a great sign that your soil biology is doing pretty well. It takes 3 full weeks to see the effect of a grain type fertilizer. Blood meal works faster but can burn.

The fact that the grass grows up tall where the dog pees is a sign that the soil is not perfectly excellent. With the CGM you might see a burst of growth. Once you get into the program, you will no longer see a growth spurt. At least I never have since my first experience. The healthy soil microbes produce growth inhibitors. This is possibly to keep the grass from sucking up all the nutrients at once. The grass will green up nicely; it just won't explode out of the ground like you see with chemical ferts and your first organic app. Once your soil balances out, you should not see the dog's pee spots.
