I noticed a bunch of seedlings coming up from one of my plants this week. Someone help me think of its name! It's bugging me 'cause I can't think of it. It has grayish leaves and bright magenta flowers and I think its a common plant so maybe it will sound familiar to somebody.
My daffodils are poking up through the ground but no buds yet. Freezes don't seem to hurt them at all unless the flower buds are starting to open. The foliage is pretty tough. I don't know if naked ladies are the same. I haven't grown them before.

Christie are you thinking of Lychnis coronaria 'rose campion' mine has stayed up all winter this year.

That's it! Thanks Beerhog. I'm not sure when the seedlings came up - maybe in the fall. I just hadn't noticed them. There's quite a few. I'm guessing I should've deadheaded my mama plant but I didn't. If they grow fast enough, I'll have some to trade with this year.
I looked for my columbine and I found lots of my purple columbine which has green leaves now, but didn't see any of my wild columbine that I planted last year. Do those stay green too? Hope they didn't die.
I found some little sprouts of sedum coming up also. Is it early for that? The calendar still says January. lol

We are finally getting a good rain , so I expect a lot of things will be coming up . Whoopee !

My peonies are coming up. Found them Thursday cleaning up
a front bed. Covered them up with a good layer of mulch.
Just bought this house in October and didn't even know anything was planted there, found plant tags while cleaning up the bed.

Phlox, daylilies, spring bulbs, sedum, verbenia are what I noticed. Winter honeysuckle is blooming.

Maybe you'll get some other surprises ekoboat. Does it look like the former owner did a lot of gardening?
Marian - We got a good rain here too. It's been so dry and I haven't watered anything. The hoses were put away for the winter. I've heard NW Arkansas has been even drier.

Helen - I'm going to check my verbena today since yours is coming up. I planted Homestead Purple and have had trouble getting it through the winter in the past. It certainly wasn't too wet this year so maybe it will reappear.

Is tiarella supposed to keep its leaves through the winter like heuchera and heucherella? No signs of life for mine. I'll be sad if it's gone. It had beautiful leaves. : (

Oh no, the hosta points are sticking up. I know the frost will make them ugly for a while. It happens every spring, but this is the earliest they have ever poked up.

Hollyhocks are deeply buried...not sure they ever went away
Sedum is buried under mulch but coming on.
I didn't think to even look at my hostas...
I'm going to get out and mulch this weekend...I'm still paranoid of a good long freeze

Don't think I'll get too many suprises Christie, I don't believe the beds have been touched for several years. I did find some crocus in another bed and popping up in the middle of the back yard. I did see a bee yesterday which was a suprise.

I have absolutely NOTHING coming up in my yard. We just bought this house and I was given a BUNCH of tulip bulbs as a house warming present. I have prepared my area in the yard for my flower garden, but other then tulips,a rose bush that I brought with me, elephant ears, and the snap dragons my hubby wants, I haven't a clue as to what I can plant here. ( I am new to Missouri ) I like things that smell like cinnamon, and want a mixture so I can have a garden as long as I can ... any help here ??? lol
