Judy, that sounds like so much fun! How close are you to Ft. Smith? I wish I knew where to rescue some plants. I'm always afraid I'll get caught and get in trouble. lol I was much braver when I was young. I do know where there are lots and lots of daffys on the side of the road. I may just have to rescue some of them this year. Nancy (who can't wait for spring!)

Hey.. I would love to go to the garden show in Ft. Smith Flower show. I need to know more information about it. Do you know where is at? What the date will be held? How much cost ticket? and etc... I went to Chicago Flower show and Indiana Flower show last year. I really enjoyed it very much. I have never went out to the Arkansas Flower show! I must go to the flower show this year. Kat

I don't know that there will be roses for sale but I've managed to pick up hardy orchids and cattleyas in one booth. The Rose Promotion Day at Sharums's Nursery will be April 23.

Kaye the rose is alive. Even has leaves on it. Will see how it does this year. Will you be at sharum's that day. Will have to see if cant get there. Am so excited tried the winter sowing thing and have green people gowing in the containers. May have to sell plants by the road. Come on spring am real impatient this year.

Yes, I'll be there since I'm supposed to be organizing the local rose society to help people choose roses that day at Sharum's. They have ordered hybrid teas, floribundas, Austins and some old garden roses. I'm pushing to get more of the old ones available. The Fort Smith Rose Society has planted 32 climbing roses on Old Greenwood Road, across from the Acme Brick plant. We got them in last spring so they should be a sight this year. Would be worth a look see if you are coming to town for the Rose Day.

theres one thing that bothers me on this posting--the one about "rescuing" flowers from abandoned places-- does anyone ASK if they can go onto a place and dig up the flowers? i know, after my mom died, people went onto her place and dug up her flowers, even used a truck to pull up a beautiful magnolia tree, and it made us sick--we would have given a "start" of any of mom's flowers, to anyone who asked-- but remember, abandoned dosent mean it dosent belong to someone, and they may love walking around, and remembering mom and her flowers.

Ceresone, I'm so sorry about your mothers flowers. That was not good.
There are times when it is proper to rescue flowers tho. Near me was an old housesite which had been abandoned for several years. A for sale sign went up. Not long after a sold sign went up. I just had to have a start of a huge lilac tree and a start of a small pink rose climbing up a tree. some small yellow daffodils that smelled heavenly. I dug up a good start of all but left many. two weeks later i went by again everything had been bulldozed over. I cried at the loss of such beautiful plants, except for the few i saved. and they are doing great at my house. I never take all plants i find . I leave some wherever i get them, old farm places,woods,roadside(where i usually just get seeds) or just anywhere and i think most plant savers do the same. but please understand we dig plants to keep them from being lost forever,which is what happened after my grandmother died. I,m not writing this to be mean it's like everything in life . good or bad can come from any action depending on the circumstances. I really feel bad you lost your mothers plants.

oakleif, you sound like my mother's kind of people. she would give a start of anything to anyone who asked, and i'm sure noone in this part of the country would mind anyone getting a few starts of plants, passing them on to the next generation, but what bothers me, is when people "around our parts" start taking everything that is there, leaving nothing. it would please me, after i'm gone, to know my flowers lived on, and were appreciated by generations to come.sorry if you thought i was complaining about a few starts--just complaing about annilation.
