Flower is 2" across. Tom Mirenda also did not recognize the name leptosepala, thinks it might be a synonym. Ecuagenera is know for doing that. Suddenly a new Dracula appeared, Dracula hartmanii. There is no such thing, it is a synonym for ???? I forgot but the point is that no one seems to be aware of a Maxillaria septosepala so I'm sure a synonym is what we are dealing with.

Could leptosepala be a synonym for Maxillaria luteoalba or Max. dillonii?

Could well be lutea-alba, Ron Kaufman somewhat of a Max specialist says that luteo-alba is a confusing species with overlap into others. Wouldn't put it past Ecuagenera to play with names like that. I have luteo-alba and it has bloomed in the past but at the present time there is no evidenve of bloom activity. I don't have dillonii but iit also looks the part.

When I was looking at the reference list on Jay Phal's site under Max. setigera, I saw references to Maxillaria leptosepala. Such as the Native Columbian Orchids Vol 6 reference that mentions "Max. luteo alba = Max. leptosepala = Max setigera."

When I tried to follow the bread crumbs to a citation about these synonyms, things just got murky. I definitely see how Max. luteo-alba could be confusing group.

Whatever it is, it is a captivating flower.

It's got to be setigera. It's one of the commonest Maxes from that region. It's an old Latino trick, give it a strange synonym to bump up the price! - Ian
